Create new objects?

Post by snowmainer »

Sorry if I sound thick but how do you create new objects to go into Muvizu? I know another Muvizu user and he made a new head for one his characters (think it was a TV set). I did ask him how he did it but he managed to answer in a not answering the question manor if you get my meaning.

You import them via the menu from the top : Create > Import

There are 3 types of files you can import :

ASE - ancient format, not well supported, but gives the most options on import.

FBX - modern format, can't include any animation info, less options on import.

OBJ - standard format, but the importer isn't great.

Getting things into Muvizu is a bit of a black art - it loves some files, hates others, you just have to experiment. Also helps if you have blender to allow you to convert models into FBX for easier import into Muvizu (the method I use).

EDIT : Just to clarify, there is no particular program you need to create models for import - any 3d modelling program will do, as long as you make it in one of the 3 formats for import.

Thank you Sir for your replay. Out of interest, what 3D modelling programme do you use?

I mainly use 3D Coat (combined with blender for some bits). I started off using Sketchup 8 (back in the day) but being unable to properly texture things forced me to find other ways to get models into Muvizu. I like 3D Coat because it's been built for artists, not architects, so it suits my approach.

Ziggy is a master at using 3D coat for objects and textures. For artificial objects like machines , furniture etc I usually make it in skechup, export it as a dae . I Load that into Silo where I texture it - export it as an obj ( with its partner .mtl file) and put it into muvizu for exporting as an fbx. and it usually works.
OK that sounds a long process I know but it works for me. It isn't often perfect first time. I often have to go back into Silo for re-texturing or back into blender for altering the scale . I dont think there are any easy ways for making models for muvizu - I reckon I spend much longer making models than anthing else in muvizu.
